These crispy, buttery, and salty mummy hot dogs are the perfect quick dinner for a chaotic weeknight or the star of your spooky party spread. They look like you tried way harder than you actually did.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 count) hot dogs
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Mustard for the eyes
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, gently unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Use a rolling pin to smooth out the fold lines slightly. Cut the sheet lengthwise into 8 even strips, about 1 inch wide.
  3. Take one hot dog and place it at one end of a pastry strip. Start wrapping the strip around the hot dog at a slight angle, leaving a small gap (about ¼ inch) between each wrap. Leave about 1 inch of the hot dog exposed at the top for the ‘head.’ Tuck the end of the pastry strip underneath the hot dog to secure it.
  4. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one.
  5. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the beaten egg over the exposed puff pastry. Be careful not to get egg wash on the exposed hot dog.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  7. Let the mummy hot dogs cool on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes. Using a toothpick or the tip of a knife, dab two small dots of mustard onto the exposed ‘head’ area of each hot dog.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold for best results. Do not wrap too tightly. Use a sharp cutter. Watch the oven to avoid burning. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated. For air fryer: cook at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes.
